Hair Removal Information

Electrolysis

There are many hair removal methods, some temporary and some for long-term. Only one process offers permanent hair removal; Electrolysis. If after reading this Q&A and you still have more questions, please feel free to contact us for more information.

Q: What is Electrolysis?

A: A fine, hair-like probe is placed in the hair follicle, followed by a small electrical current which destroys the hair papilla (hair growth source). The hair is then easily removed with tweezers.

Q: Can all body parts benefit from Electrolysis?

A: Electrolysis can be performed on virtually every body part.

Q: Is Electrolysis expensive?

A: When compared to other hair removal methods, it is moderate. It is certainly a small price to pay, when you can envision your future, free of unwanted hair.

Q: How many electrolysis treatments will I need?

A: Electrolysis requires a series of treatments to rid hair permanently. Because everyone is different, some hair may be destroyed with the first treatment, while other hair may need to go through a “breaking down” process which treats hair aggressively without damaging the skin surface. Initially, you may expect weekly appointments but as your treatments progress, the appointment scheduling will become less frequent. Some areas may require periodic clean-up 2-3 times annually. Eventually, you will be hair-free!

Q: How should I prepare myself for treatments?

A: The amount of unwanted hair you want to remove depends on you. Keep in mind we are only able to treat hair that is visible and long enough to be tweezed after treatment. The underlying hair below the skin surface will eventually emerge and need treatment as well.

Waxing

Waxing is a centuries old hair removal method that is one of the most commonly used today.

Q: Is everyone a good candidate for waxing?

A: Anyone without skin disorders or health concerns should qualify for waxing. Some acne medications or skin treatments can leave the skin succeptible to injury so you should discuss any concerns or medical treatments with a trained professional prior to waxing.

Q: Is waxing painful?

A: With a qualified technician, the process should be relatively quick with minimal discomfort.

Q: What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of waxing?

A: The advantages are that it is quick. The disadvantages are that it is only temporary and your hair will continue to grow back. Since it’s pulled out a the root, it will typically grow back with a less prickly hair than shaving, which just cuts off the tip of the hair. Waxing also can result in ingrown hairs. The staff at Electrix will be able to recommend products to alleviate this problem, should it occur.

Q: What should I prepare for in my appointments?

A: Hair in the areas you want waxed should be at least ¼ of an inch long. There may be underlying hair below the skin surface that will eventually emerge. Regular waxing appointments will usually make the hair growth relatively at the same time, allowing longer and longer time between visits.

Q: When should I reschedule?

A: Every person is different but when the hair is at least ¼ of an inch long, you can reschedule.
